Defense: What are the do's and the dont's
This is the most exciting part of thesis writing, defending the study that you conducted. This is also the part where researchers are crying blood just to have their research approved by the panels. The main problem in this part is when the research is not really conducted by the researcher, meaning, the research is just a copy of another research or just been purchased to some people who are very much willing to help and earn money. At the end of the parade, the researchers cannot defend the research well. Do you know what will happen? The research will be Rejected, the panel will fail the researchers, and much worse total revision of the study and I am sure, you do not want that to happen to you.
There are also problems like, you created a research where the title came from a suggestion, meaning, you are not the one who chose the title, but others, it could be your professor or other parties. Just like what i stated at formulating problems, you must be the one to formulate your own problem to avoid a "real" problem at the end.
Now let's move on defending a research proposal or a thesis. Let's say the research is now good and it is your original work beginning from the title until the end on the paper. When defending a research proposal or thesis to panels there are certain do's and dont's meaning, there are only things that you should do and not do or should i say limit your mouth on talking.
I will break it down to you, so that you can easily understand what i am trying to remind you.
Do's
Accept what the panels want to include on your study
Be courteous
Dress properly
Ready all the materials including the power point presentation (if you do not have laptop/pc you can use acetates)
Be sure you know all the parts of your research. If you are on a group, it is much better for the group to know the whole research not to assign someone for that certain part. There are some panel that ask so many questions and the questions will surely come from different pages of the research and they will not allow others to interfere, who is asked must be the only one to answer. Be ready.
Always smile
Be confident
Eye contact
Accept that you committed mistakes and errors and tell the panel that you will include their suggestions on the revisions
Last but always the best, prepare foods for the panel
Dont's
Do not talk much, just answer what they asked and never to add things. Remember this, less talk less mistake or should i say, you talk more = you die, you talk less = you live. Simple as that.
Never raise the tone of your voice to a panel. Respect them
Never put up a fight on the panel
If you think you are already loosing then just be quite and hear what they will say.
No mannerisms
No soft voice
Do not cry
Last but the greatest, do not forget the panel's meals
